Queensland Opti Development Camp

The Queensland Opti Development Camp is the first Opti Camp organised by Yachting Queensland as part of the newly developed Queensland Identification & Development Program.
The QIDP is designed to enable all junior and youth sailors across QLD to attend training and development camps with top level coaching.
It is also an opportunity for young sailors to be identified as potential competitive sailors for the Queensland Academy of Sport Sailing Program.

Overview:

Camp Content:
The Queensland Opti Development Camp will cater for all levels of skill and knowledge. The camp will include development of specific areas including boat handling, boat speed and race tactics and knowledge.
 
Camp Venue:
The Humpybong Yacht Club is located on the Corner of Hornibrook Esplanade & Oxley Ave, WOODY POINT QLD 4019. The HYC is about a 45 minute drive north of the Brisbane Air Port.
 
Accommodation:
Camp participants will be encouraged to stay in the Humpybong Yacht Club hall with camping in the grounds of the club also available for parents and family members.

Coaches:
Ben Callard:
·         Queensland Development Sailing Team Head Coach and Manager
·         Queensland Academy of Sport Sailing program Assistant Coach
·         Head of Coaching for sailing Brisbane Boys College
·         8 years of professional coaching experience
Martin Watson:
·         High Performance Manger for Yachting New Zealand
·         Several ISAF Youth Worlds as a Coach/Manager
·         20 years of professional coaching experience
QAS Athletes:
·         A number of the QAS athletes will be in attendance to help out with coaching and assistance
 
Start Time:
Participants are invited to arrive at the Humpybong Yacht Club from 5pm onwards on Friday the 16th April 2010. Participants are to rig and prepare their boats, and secure for the night. There will be an official welcome and opening at 6:30pm, followed by dinner and then a night theory session then bed preparation.
 
Finish Time:
The camp will finish around 4pm on Sunday the 18th April 2010.
 
Meals:
All meals for camp participants and will comprise of:
Breakfast – cereal, toast, juice, fruit
Morning tea and snacks – biscuits, fruit, muesli bars etc.
Lunch – meat and salad rolls, sandwiches, fruit
Dinner – Pizzas, BBQ
Fresh fruit and water will be available all day.
Parents and/or family members staying and camping at the yacht club can purchase meal vouchers for the weekend as required.
If you have any special dietary requirements that are not catered for in the above please make adequate arrangements to supply your own food to meet your needs.
The Humpybong Yacht Club would appreciate some keen Opti parents to help with food preparation and clean up. Please contact Ben Callard if you are available and willing to help
 
What to bring:
·         Your Opti – including all parts and pieces as well as all safety gear required for you to go sailing
·         Personal Floatation Device (PFD/life jacket)
·         Shoes including a pair of runners
·         Sunscreen, hat, sunglasses
·         Sailing gear
·         Log book, note book, pens
·         Small spare parts bag
·         Sleeping bag, mattress, pillow
·         Towels
·         Toiletries
·         Enough cloths for 2 days
·         Plastic plate, bowl, mug, knife, fork, spoon, tea towel
·         Mozzie spray
All equipment and clothing to be clearly named!!!
 
Behaviour:
A high level of good behaviour will be expected from all sailors attending the camp. Any breach of good behaviour will mean that parents will be contacted and expulsion from the camp a possibility. All sailors are to make themselves familiar with the Yachting Australia Code of Conduct for Sailors available from their website www.yachting.org.au.
 
Insurance:
All boats entered shall have a current insurance certificate for the boat with third party property damage and public liability insurance cover of not less than $5,000,000.
 
Application:
Please have applications and fees to Ben Callard at Yachting Queensland by Monday 5th April. Numbers are limited and entries will be treated on a first in first served basis.
