Runaway Bay Yacht Club launched the 2006 Runaway Bay University Sailing Regatta Series last month at Paradise point on the Gold Coast.

In an exciting developement for university sailing Twenty sailors from Queensland Universities and Tafes coming together battle it out on Runaway Bay.

"Our first event of our new university racing series was very popular, a sign of things to come." John Murphy said.

"To have university sailors come together on a regular basis is a receipe for good competition and fun."

Students from the University of Queensland, Griffth, Queensland University of Technology and Queensland Tafe sailed boats of all shapes and sizes.  The day included dinghies and cat's racing in a sprint series format.

Sailors had the option to hire boats at the venue or bring their own.  The relaxing Sunday was spent matching their skills against the elements and fellow students.

The next event in the Runaway Bay 2006 University Sailing Regatta Series is on Sunday October 8, 2006 at Paradise Point Training Facility.
