2007 Dent to Dunk
James Kyle, Monday, 31 July 2006

Dates set for 2007 Dent to Dunk events.

Following The Huge success of the 2006 event which brought over ¾ million tourism dollars to far NQ in the aftermath of cyclone Larry, the 2007 dates have been set.

The date for the Dent to Dunk Race start for 2007 is Saturday 26th May. The format remains unchanged from May 2006, with the start at 1030. The course takes the yachts, inside the protected warm waters of the Great Barrier Reef, up to Dunk Island, then to the finish off Port Hinchinbrook, Cardwell, a distance of approximately 240 nautical miles.

The very popular Dent to Dunk Rally (formerly the Coral Coast Rally) will begin on Saturday 19th May. The Rally has been extended by two days, an extra layday has been added, at Cape Upstart, and an extra leg from Cape Richards to Dunk Island, making it a nine day event. The previous rally in May, was hugely successful with 34 boats taking part, and a lot of fun. The Commodore of Whitsunday Sailing Club, Mick Phillips, who competed in the 2006 Race, said “I’m going to do the Rally next year, everyone who did had a permanent smile on their face. I want to find out why”

The Abel Point Yacht Club has received many entries already for the 2007 Rally, and the event looks like being a “sell out”. The organisers have decided to put a “cap” on the number of entrants for 2007 at sixty boats. The logistics of organising functions and catering ashore at various distant locations requires early confirmation of numbers, so entries will close by the 1st May 2007.

So get your entry in quickly and you don’t miss out on this great event. Entry fees must be paid up to be counted as confirmed.
