Riverfire lit up the Brisbane River

Sailing on Show at RegattaFest
A perfect breeze allowed the 2006 RegattaFest Sailing Challenge to take centre stage on the Brisbane River prior to Brisbane’s biggest event, Riverfire on September 2.
Featuring a live sailing commentary on the Toowong Reach and followed by a fireworks display, the challenge was a unique opportunity to promote sailing, and your club, in downtown Brisbane.
Brisbane’s river clubs were invited to involved in the event and were actively promoted by Yachting Queensland through the live commentary.
The professional management of the event was a credit to Allan Clarke and South Brisbane Sailing Club. Their race management team carefully protected the fleet from river traffic ensuring safety for all participating.
Yachting Queensland President Dayle Smith was invited to present the 2006 Regattafest Challenge Trophy and $1000 in Regatta Hotel Vouchers. He commented on the impressive nature of the event.
“The fireworks display certainly provided unique entertainment for a sailing awards presentation,” Dayle Smith said.
The event concluded with 80 sailors and friends enjoying a barbeque and fireworks on the banks of the Toowong Reach.
