Sail in front of a large crowd with a live commentary – I’d like to do that!

The RegattaFest Sailing Challenge, presented by South Brisbane Sailing Club and Yachting Queensland, will thrill the crowds at the 2006 RegattaFest celebrations on September 2nd, 2006 on the Brisbane River.

Featuring a live sailing commentary on both banks of the Toowong Reach and a fireworks display as part of Riverfire, the event will be a unique opportunity to promote sailing in downtown Brisbane.

Following the sailing event at 3.30pm, families can enjoy a BBQ at 5.30pm hosted by South Brisbane Sailing Club on Hill End Terrace, opposite the Regatta Hotel.  Families are encouraged to bring a rug and settle in to soak up the atmosphere as the excitement builds for the Riverfire Live Site fireworks display on the Toowong Reach, broadcast by Triple M.

All clubs are specifically invited to be part of this event and promote sailing to the Brisbane public.  Over 25,000 people are expected to attend the two day regattafest event.  All crews who compete have the opportunity to share in $100 in Regatta Hotel vouchers and win the Challenge Trophy.

Yachting Queensland Executive Officer Bruce Chapman highlighted the significance of the RegattaFest Sailing Challenge.

“RegattaFest is the perfect opportunity to bring Brisbane’s river clubs together the launch another fantastic season of river sailing.

“Sailing on the Brisbane river is a unique lifestyle that has existed for more than a century and this event will provide the public with the opportunity to experience a taste of it,” Mr Chapman said.

The event  begins at 3pm at South Brisbane Sailing Club, Hill End Terrace, West End and is open to all mono hull classes under 5 metres.  For the notice of race Click Here! or visit www.sbsc.org.au.
